In the Business Education Department, students have the opportunity to flourish inside and outside of the classroom. These programs bridge the gap between school and career and provide students with the opportunity to network, create, collaborate and gain valuable insight into the world beyond high school. By working with expert business faculty and marketing professionals, students will learn essential and relevant marketing components, including the four P’s and how to successfully create a marketing plan. They will test their skills and work collaboratively in teams to develop a marketing plan based on a sample case assignment that will be presented to a panel of judges. The team that creates the most successful marketing plan is awarded the coveted title of the Adelphi Apprentice.
Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession
The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the Moynihan Scholarship Fund (MSF), sponsor the Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program on college campuses across the state. Approximately 250 students are accepted into the program each year. The program is free to students. Students are taken on field trips and given an opportunity to visit corporations, accounting firms, nonprofit organizations, and government agencies in order to gain exposure to the business world.
Hofstra University provides students with the opportunity to shadow different professions in the business world. Students are able to gain insight on how retail operations work in a college atmosphere.
A week long transformational program for high school leaders who plan to major in business. The program features lectures from professionals in the areas of analytics, careers, entertainment, entrepreneurship and public speaking. Students will receive the opportunity to go on corporate worksite tours to gain an understanding of the workplace.
Students will be challenged by interactive seminars from wall street professionals, as well as leaders of other major business firms. These seasoned executives provide career coaching to help guide students in the right direction. There are multiple active learning opportunities including "Shark Tank," trading simulation, business presentation, and marketing competitions. There is also the opportunity to network with student ambassadors who have had real-world experience through their internships and are getting ready to start fast-track business careers.
Women's Leadership Conference - Sponsored by Junior Achievement and National Grid
Students will engage in activities to build skills in business communications and team building. There will also be a panel discussion that is focused on exposure to different careers by learning the background on the National Grid employee panelists, getting recommendations on evaluating strengths and weaknesses, gaining valuable experience, and becoming self-sufficient.
Youth Leadership Conference - Sponsored by Junior Achievement and FedEx
Students will learn from professionals about career pathing and leadership skills. They will also collaborate on business scenarios and decision making.
