Special Education

INTEGRATED CO-TEACH CLASSES (ICT)

Classes currently offered in Earth Science, Living Environment, Global History and Geography I, Global History and Geography II, United States History and Government, English 1, English 2, English 3, Algebra, Algebra II, and Geometry, allow special education students to attend mainstream classes taught by the content area teacher accompanied by a special education teacher.   Students are also scheduled for additional support services taught by the content area teacher to optimize success in the least restrictive environment.

RESOURCE ROOM

Resource Rooms are scheduled for a minimum of one period per day to address the learning needs of special education students in the least restrictive environment.  The resource room program is set up to provide:

  • Support for mainstream curriculum
  • Remedial instruction
  • Compensatory strategies to enhance learning
  • Study skills strategies

SPECIAL CLASS 15:1

This program offers students an academic program paralleling mainstream classes that are adapted to meet individual needs.  Classes are taught by several special education teachers. Students prepare for the New York State Regents Examinations.  The goal for students in these classes is to pursue and earn a New York State Regents diploma.  These classes are only offered for English Language Arts and Math.  

SPECIAL CLASS 8:1:1

This program offers students a basic core curriculum emphasizing daily living skills. The classes are designed for students with developmental delays.  Vocational education may be a component of this program; electives may be taken each year; and Physical Education.
